Legislation in the Arab Countries

Many developing countries including few Arab countries were originally hesitant in adopting and enforcing IP laws and regulations because of strong opposition from some sectors of their business communities. Furthermore, public awareness of the IP culture in the Arab countries was limited. During the last decade the majority of the Arab countries came to realize the many opportunities and benefits resulting from joining the WTO. Therefore, they initiated intensive campaigns at all levels of their communities and succeeded in introducing and enforcing comprehensive IP laws and regulations. Today, most Arab countries are full members of the WIPO and became party to most IP treaties and conventions.
