If you docket every Iraqi renewal under one rule, you will get one of the two offices wrong.
Kurdistan Region: in October 2025, the instruction of the Kurdistan Trademarks Registrar, as relayed to us, was that renewal applications can only be filed within the two months before the due date.
Baghdad: in our files, renewals at the Iraqi Trademark Office were filed and completed well ahead of the due date. In two recent cases the mark was renewed for a further ten years, effective from the renewal due date, with the renewal completed between about seven weeks and three months before that date. Filing early did not shorten the new term, which still runs from the due date.
So the offices pull in opposite directions: instructions sent too early for Kurdistan cannot yet be filed, while in Baghdad there was no need to wait.
Practical docketing:
- Baghdad: instruct as soon as the goods list is agreed
- Kurdistan: diarise the two-month window and instruct inside it
- Ask your agent to confirm the current Kurdistan practice each year
