In one 2026 renewal file, the mark had fallen due in September 2026. In our files, a renewal filed after the due date can still go ahead within a six-month grace period, with a late-payment fine. So that mark was still valid and still renewable, and the renewal was finalised. The end of its grace period was six months after the due date, in March 2027.
Between the due date and the end of grace sits the window in which a renewal is still possible but more expensive. Advice on a mark depends on knowing exactly where it stands in that window.
A simple discipline for renewing a trademark in Iraq:
- Calculate the due date yourself from the filing date
- Calculate the end of the grace period and record both dates in your docket
- Label every reminder clearly: 'due date' or 'end of grace'
- Before acting on a 'last day' message, check both dates with your Iraqi agent
Not sure where a mark stands in its renewal cycle? Send us the details and we will confirm both dates.
