Can a filed trademark application in Baghdad be corrected? Not even by the Trademark Office's own staff.

Filing

In one February 2026 file, a food-class application was filed without one item that was in the instructions: the same wording sat under two item numbers, so one item was entered twice and the other dropped out.

As we explained to the instructing agent, amendments to filed applications are not permitted, even for the Trademarks Office's own employees, in order to prevent any manipulation of applications. Nor can new goods be added to a filed application: they must go into a new filing.

Why? We rely on the wording of the goods, not the item number, when submitting search applications: the number generates several options per item, the wording displays exactly the right goods.

Before and after a Baghdad filing:

  • Instruct by the wording of each item, not by item numbers only
  • When the filed application comes back, compare it with your list line by line
  • Ask for the final item count and match it with yours

A gap found at that stage can only be closed with a new filing.
