Not every typo in a power of attorney means re-legalising it. Knowing which ones matter saves weeks.

POA

Between December 2025 and January 2026, foreign agents asked us about several small discrepancies in POAs and owner documents. Our advice in those files:

  • A signatory's name repeated twice in Latin letters, with the Arabic correct: such errors are not taken into consideration when the power of attorney is verified.
  • An Arabic spelling that differs from the English owner name: since the applicant's name and address appear in English in both the publication and the registration certificate, the Arabic spelling is not important.
  • A capital instead of a lower-case letter, or a hyphen, in the owner name: a minor typographical error not taken into account by the Trademark Registrar or the competent courts.

This is not a licence to be careless. The English name and address are what the record carries, and that is where accuracy really counts.

Before you redo and re-legalise a document, ask your Iraqi agent one question: is this error cosmetic, or does it touch the English name and address that will print on the publication and certificate?

Unsure whether a POA error matters in Iraq? Send it to us before you start the legalisation chain again.
