In one design file this October, the application was filed and the outstanding requirements came with a hard deadline: six months from the filing date, with no possibility of extension. Among them:
- six photographs of the design from six angles: top, bottom, left, right, front and rear
- two actual physical samples of the product
The samples deserve special attention. They are mandatory and cannot be waived. Photographs, packaging images or catalogues are not accepted as substitutes. Even where the design concerns a large product, such as a cooker, washing machine or dishwasher, the Iraqi Industrial Design Office requires miniature models for examination.
Making a model and shipping it to Baghdad takes time, so it is better to start early than to rely on the last weeks.
Our tip: at instruction stage, ask the design owner to prepare the six-angle photographs and the samples or models straight away, and send more than two samples in case one is damaged in shipment. Diarise six months from the filing date on day one.
Planning design protection in Iraq? We are glad to walk you through the requirements before you file.
