In one 2025 opposition in the Kurdistan Region, the certificates first supplied for the opponent's marks were in two other classes. Our guidance to the agent was precise: what is required are certificates for the opponent's trademark in the same class as the opposed trademark. There is no need to submit certificates for other classes. Supporting documents must pertain specifically to the same class or classes as the opposed mark.
We then had to ask for the right-class certificates urgently, with the opposition deadline about a week away.
It is easy to send what is already on file. But time spent on the wrong certificates is time taken from preparing the arguments.
When instructing a trademark opposition in Kurdistan:
- Identify the class of the opposed application first
- Pull your registrations in that same class before anything else
- Check your home certificate list against that class well before the deadline week
- Send other-class certificates only if your agent asks for them
