One sentence in your first instruction decides whether an Iraqi trademark application is split by class.

Filing

In our practice with associate offices, the choice between one multi-class application and a separate application for each class is normally specified in the initial instructions, so it is recorded in our file and taken into account before filing.

The timing matters. In one 2026 file, a multi-class application had already been filed and returned, and it was no longer possible to divide it into separate applications.

So if you want single-class filings, say so at the start. A note added after the application has gone in may come too late.

In your first instruction for a trademark filing in Iraq, state:

  • One multi-class application, or a separate application for each class
  • That you want the matter referred to you once the preliminary search is passed, before filing
  • The same preference again in any follow-up instruction
