Recording a licence in Baghdad after a change of name? The order of steps decides your timeline.

Recordals

In a 2025 file, we set out the sequence for an owner that had changed its name. Licence applications cannot be filed before the name-change applications are submitted and published in the Official Gazette. And name-change procedures take about six months from filing to publication in the Gazette.

That does not mean the licence agreement must wait six months. There is no objection to signing it before the name-change applications are filed – but only after the change-of-name declaration has been legalised by the Iraqi Embassy.

One more practical point from the same file: a licence agreement format already accepted by the Licensing Committee is worth reusing.

Licence recordal sequence in Baghdad (2025 position):

  • Legalise the change-of-name declaration up to the Iraqi Embassy
  • Sign the licence agreement only after that legalisation
  • File the change of name and wait for Gazette publication
  • Then file the licence recordal
  • Reuse a licence format the Licensing Committee has accepted
