In a 2024 annuity file, our office confirmed in writing that when the annuity is paid in Iraq, the registration number must be mentioned instead of the application number. The instructing annuity provider also asked for the official payment receipt to show the registration number, because that number is stored in its system.
Here is the practical snag. Typically, the accountant does not mention the patent number on the official tax receipt. So the receipt has to be linked to the patent another way: the official receipt number can be compared with the number on the accountant's stamp on the patent renewal, and we sent a translation of that stamp showing the receipt number and date.
Without a visible link to the registration number, the provider may not be able to match the receipt to its records.
For Iraqi patent annuities:
- Give your agent the patent registration number, not only the filing number
- Ask for the official receipt plus the stamped renewal page
- Ask for a translation of the accountant's stamp
- Confirm the current procedure with your agent, as this example dates from 2024
