In October, for one long-standing Baghdad registration, we had to tell a foreign colleague that the renewal application could not be filed because the trademark file had not yet been located at the Iraqi Trademark Office.
The only available solution was to open a replacement file. For that we required:
- a copy of the trademark registration or renewal certificate
- a copy of the most recent renewal application, duly stamped by the Ministry
The documents must also relate to that exact registration. In this file, the first set sent to us did not relate to the registration and could not be used, so we had to ask again. About five months of the grace period remained when we first reported the problem, and every week spent gathering papers comes out of that time.
For older Iraqi registrations, keep together:
- the registration certificate
- every renewal certificate
- each renewal application bearing the Ministry stamp
- a check that every copy matches the registration number before you send it
