We are unable to provide a fixed total cost for registering a trademark in both Baghdad and Kurdistan, as the total cost depends on the number of goods to be covered by the trademark in Baghdad and the number of subclasses to be covered in Kurdistan.
How official fees are charged
- The applicable official fees are payable in stages, namely filing, publication, and final registration.
- The official fee for the preliminary examination application is charged per class.
- The official fees depend on the number of goods selected. An applicant may limit the application to selected goods and services to reduce them.
- At the filing stage and at the final registration stage there is a maximum number of goods for which official fees are charged; goods beyond that maximum carry no additional official fee.
The Kurdistan Region
- The Kurdistan Trademark Office continues to apply the old Iraqi sub-classification system, so the applicable fees may vary depending on the relevant sub-classes and the goods or services claimed.
Changes in the official fees
- Official fees for trademark transactions in Iraq were increased by an official decision effective 1 May 2026.
Paying the fees
- After acceptance at preliminary examination, the application is filed electronically and the official filing fees are paid by bank card.
- Access to the Trademark Office’s online system is linked to the mobile phone number through which the application was originally submitted. Under the current electronic system, payment must be made through the same mobile phone number/account that was used for payment of the original filing fees.
- Under Iraqi law, a deadline falling on an official holiday is extended to the next working day. The Trademark Office accepts no official fee payments on Iraqi public holidays or on the last working day of each month.
