A late Kurdistan renewal does not move your next deadline.

Kurdistan

In our 2026 Kurdistan files, the renewal confirmations say the mark was renewed "for another 10 years as of due date for renewal", not from the day the renewal was actually filed.

We saw this in one file renewed almost three months after its due date, and in another renewed about ten days before it. In both, the new ten-year term runs from the original due date.

A first registration in the Kurdistan Region is different. A new Kurdistan registration certificate we sent to an agent in October was valid for 15 years.

Why this matters for docketing:

  • If you count the next renewal from the filing date of a late renewal, your reminder lands in the wrong month
  • If your system applies one term to every Iraqi file, Kurdistan first registrations and renewals may be off

For each Kurdistan trademark, record:

  • The original renewal due date, and count from it
  • 10 years for a renewal
  • 15 years for a first registration
  • Any Baghdad registration of the same mark as a separate entry
